Teambuilding with the others. #ntec #socializing

Today after work we got to do teambuilding activity with the admin and student services team. Before heading to bowling we got to have pizza treat as well and hang out briefly with the others.

Wei Lin, the admin manager organized the whole thing and even got us to draw ballots to group us into teams of 3. But I got to team up with a majority of the admin people in Group 2.

However, when we arrived at Metrolanes, we were told by the staff that we should split into 4 groups and use 4 lanes instead of three. So we had to regroup quickly and I manage to get into a group with Pavel, ladyboss, Amogh and a new guy Yash.

image

Game 1 score. Our team got 413 and we were probably the second last. Was just too far from the other lanes to see what their score is.

image

Gotta catch me a selfie! I was there yo!

image

I gotta say, everyone was pretty good at this game.

image

Some deliberations and strategy planning going on here I presume. Amogh, was pointing at the other team’s scoreboards as Pavel and Yash looks on. Nick was getting ready to take his turn on the lane.

image

Game 2 score. We won! Hehehehehe…

image

Ladyboss got me a beer with lemon! The Sol Cerveza Mexican Beer. It actually tasted not too bitter like how normal beers taste like. I politely declined when she asked me if I wanted a drink but she insisted and got me one even when I didn’t ask for it. I should really shout the next one if we get to come bowling again.

image

Can’t leave the activity without a groufie moment. About 18 of us here and plus myself holding the camera and then Ting who left a bit earlier.

image

Good game everyone! We should mix the group evenly and balance it out the next round 😉

Shared Lunch Party.

It’s the time of the season again, we are required to bring a plate to the office to share and of course show off our cooking skills.

image

Thanks to my sister’s recommendation, I decided to bring something ethnic and exotic to share with everyone. I made Hinava! It’s a Kadazan delicacy made of raw fish. It’s basically a raw fish salad. I used tuna and soaked them in lime juice overnight so that it’s marinated well.

image

Look at all the food on the table! Everyone brought so much food it was just food coma going on with my body after the whole event.

image

image

image

There’s Vietnamese spring rolls, fish curry, chicken curry, lamb curry, biryani rice, coconut rice and lots of dessert. I especially enjoyed Salu’s Samoan dish, with the coconut bun soaked in Coconut milk.. mmmmm absolutely simple yet delish!

image

And then there’s those who forgot it was the shared lunch day and just went ahead and brought take out from nearby foodcourt but its ok, enjoyed those food too 😊

Team Achieve versus Team NTEC. #bowling #afterworkhours #officeouting

Loving our boss for this!! What a way to wrap up the work week just before the new term starts next week.

Aimee arranged for the whole team Achieve and team NTEC accounting staffs to go on a bowling activity for team bonding. So cool of her for organizing this. It was also awesome that we didn’t have to go far, just down the Event Center where the cinema was at is Metrolanes.

P1030394

For the weekends, the price was a bit high, about 15 dollars for the first game per person, then 12 dollars for the next game. That already includes the shoes though. There were 10 of us, including Nick’s mom who was in town and came to join us. She is one active mama too! Not afraid to bowl and show off some good skills!

It’s been awhile since I last played bowling, I think that was just before leaving for NZ when I had bowling with the fam bam at 1 Borneo. I always look forward to activities like this cos it really helps to bond people together and its also so much fun! See how much fun Khaleed and Saj were having in this photo? High five to newbie Saj!

P1030402

And we have to have a team photo to showcase our vibrant side even as accountants. Hehehehe! With Nick, Khaleed, Aimee, Saj, Pavel, Elwin, Ting and Marina (Nick’s mom).

P1030409

We started at about 6:30pm and finished two games of 10 people with a vegetarian pizza by around 7:45pm. Twas a good game I say, good game! First round the NTEC people won because Merwyn was so good and kept striking, while I was just on my warm up and was so terrible and kept shooting into the gutter. But the next round I was all pumped up and did so much better and it helped the Team Achieve to win the second round! Well, plus Merwyn left the NTEC team after the first round, guess that helped too and that’s why he wasn’t in the group photo! Hehehehe.

Scores halfway through the first round. How bad was I? Terrible!! At the 9th round and I was only on a score of 57! Waaattt…. tsk tsk

Thank You Lord for the blessing of a cool boss!

Work Hard, Play Harder. #Rummy-O #boardgames

image

This looks like our kind of “overtime”. With our boss Aimee (the coolest boss ever!), Khaleed and Saj at one of the meeting rooms having an intense round of Rummy O.

Proud to say that out of the 3 rounds we played, I managed to win one of it!

But really, these players take the game so seriously that this takes us up to one hour per round! We only left the office at 8:30pm!

A Day at the Park. #Cornwall #Auckland

Aimee invited Saj and I to go to Cornwall Park today to take a walk, chill and just hang out. We met up with her at the office just at about lunch time, and helped her deconstruct the Christmas tree and packed a few things from the office to her BMW.

But before heading to the park, it’s a late lunch makan time! Aimee took us to a Malaysian restaurant called the KK Malaysian Cuisine down at Epsom, just a few minutes drive nearby to the park. Nothing in the restaurant serves anything Kota Kinabalu style so I am not sure why they are called KK, maybe the name of the owner or something.

image

We ordered a two serving Coconut rice, Kang Kung stir fried with Sambal, and their Beef Rendang.

image

The rendang dish was about $20 I think, and it wasn’t spicy at all but it was definitely very tasty! I am usually not a big fan of rendangs, but this one was nice and juicy and not dry like the ones I normally taste during Hari Raya open houses!

image

When we got to the park, Aimee showed us the Stardome Observatory which has an entrance fee but she just wanted to show us a small part of the place but the observatory was already closed. So we just ended up taking a photo in front of the entrance just to say we were here. Hehehehe

image

After parking her BMW, Aimee, Saj and I took a stroll down the park looking for a nice spot to sit down and chill. Look at all the lovely trees along the walkway! Aimee and Saj walking in front of me while I was busy taking photos and some selfies.

image

This shot was the best selfie for the day!

image

I also brought my recently purchased Wilson volleyball to the park so we could play!

image

Today, I also got to drive in Auckland for the very first time! Well, it wasn’t much of a drive really since I just helped Aimee drive her car nearer to the spot we were positioned at and the drive was just pretty much down the road inside the park area only. But hey, it still counts as driving!

image

With Aimee and Saj at our spot under the tree. Good thing Aimee still had her beach rug in the car so we could use it to sit on the ground and play Rummy-O! Now, these two are quite the competitive board game players. It was such an intense session that I really wish they would just lighten up and play for fun! Have some conversation while we’re at it for goodness sake! Oh well, at least I won one of the rounds and was placed second for the others hehehehe.. and yes, Saj is the better player at this game 🙄

And once again, God answered our prayer for a good weather! No rain today! It was such a wonderful time of fellowship! Thank You so much Lord!

Puhoi River Kayaking. #teamAchieve #ChristmasOuting

Today almost didn’t happen. But it did. Thank You Lord for favor, good weather, safe journey and good company!

2 Week’s ago, the boss organized a mini team outing to go Kayaking at Puhoi River. But the catch was, we were doing it on a Friday afternoon where we’d get off work early, leave at 1pm and arrive at the Puhoi Canoe Hire spot around 2pm.

At 1pm, it seemed like everyone was still busy with their unfinished business and was going to cancel the trip. But thankfully, our boss was so kind enough to ask if we were still game to go even if not everyone could make it. The 3 of us, Pavel, Sajid and I, of course said YES!

So off we went, a little later than scheduled, all four of us took a ride in Pavel’s little Nissan and went out of the city, heading north, for about 35minutes and arrived at the take off station around 2:10pm.

image

Entrance to the Puhoi River Canoe Hire! The fabulous four. Hehehehehe…

image

image

image

Registration and a signed waiver, in case of emergencies, the company is not liable of course.

image

Group photo is a must! Us holding the paddle and oh so ready to get into action!

image

But before that, a briefing to tell us what to expect, and where we will end up.

image

Off we go!!! Good thing I persisted to bring my camera with me and the life jacket I had on had  a little pouch in the front that could hold my camera safely.

image

This is how much leg room there is in the kayak. My very white legs got some sun and tan today.

image

Some short mountain hill view on the side of the river. With some sheep as well making their presence known and calling out to us.

image

Sajid was my kayak buddy for the whole time. Watching out for each other since it was his first time and mine too! I think he was even more excited for this trip and definitely showed another side of him when he tends to talk too much and all sort of weird funny chatter comes out of him. I also learned from this little bonding session cruising down the river, that he is a fan of Josh Groban and could sing quite well too! LOL.

image

More lovely “Sound of Music” kind of hills along the river!

image

It was an 8KM river down to the part where it ends at Wenderholm Regional Park. I quite enjoyed the paddle except for times when the water was shallow and the wind was blowing against the kayak. Also the hardest part was when the current kept pushing the opposite way of where I wanted to go.

It took us almost about 2 hours to finish the entire journey but still a very memorable experience indeed. God answered my prayer of a wonderful and beautiful sunny weather out! Yay!

image

After all that hard work out of paddling the kayak, we went just 200m down the road from Puhoi River Canoe and stepped into the infamous Puhoi Pub which is one of NZ’s last iconic historical pubs left in the southern hemisphere. The interior was amazing. So much memorabilia and vintage items, people leaving bills with written messages and their name cards on the walls etc. Wow, I was lovin’ the place!

image

Our lady boss gave us a shout on the drinks! I did not hold back and went for a good ol’ Smirnoff Ice! Tasty and refreshing, and only 5% alcohol hehehehe… It was the ladies who were the drinkers here! Pavel went with a non alcoholic ginger beer and Saj went with a tomato juice thing. Tsk. Boys!

image

image

And ladyboss kept asking the men to go and play pool and they were so shy and hesitant! I went ahead and just got the deal done already and I am so glad I did cos we had such a good time! It was Saj’s first time playing pool, Pavel was of course a professional but it was really the ladyboss who had a hidden talent and could play pool pretty well too! It was the ladies against the men and we were leading until finally we girls got the black ball in before its time.. Aaaawww.. still, we were already close to winning!

image

image

Look at that level of concentration in trying to get the balls in. Even with a bit of a flushed face from all the alcohol build up, I could still maintain focus!

image

Just one game was enough for us and then we were off to Irina’s home down in North Shore Bella Verde. Luckily we didn’t have to bring any drinks because her home had a good collection of beverages already! I was enjoying their Gold Label Wolf Blass Barossa Shiraz from 2013. It was good wine really but maybe I just don’t prefer Shiraz in general.

image

And I met a new furry friend, Cookie! He is Irina’s baby mix breed who is only 3 years old and such a friendly dog! So lovable and welcoming and just hungry for human attention! And the best thing is, it doesn’t stink! Now I feel like I can’t wait to have a dog!

image

Irina has a really big and lovely home. Large kitchen with a large dining area and not to mention a barbeque area out at the deck. Gorgeous place. Too bad she’s leaving the company and so this is probably our first and last time to get to be invited to her home for a nice little meal and party. She’s this Russian lady in the office and I always remember her as the one who comes in super early like before 8am. She even displayed all her farewell cards and gifts (I picked the jewelry display mantle by the way!) on the table as decorations too.

image

image

Our barbeque dinner is served! I think Irina’s husband had a really good skill for grilling food but mostly I think it’s cos he got a real good barbeque machine! We had grilled pork served with tomatoes and cucumbers. And I went crazy for it! Had 3 large slices of pork steak! uurrggh.. I really eat like a caveman.

image

With the boys, Merwyn and Sajid hanging outside and eating while the rest of them ate inside the dining room. Was too nice outside to stay indoors!

image

image

After all that food, what a better way to get the system to start digesting them by doing a bit of table tennis work out??!

image

Saj playing against Irina’s husband. Such an awesome idea to have a table tennis set up in your garage! Good entertainment for guests!

image

Pavel also got to play with Irina’s husband after he dropped Nik and the wife off.

image

Even the ladyboss could play table tennis! My goodness! She is so multi talented! RESPECT!

image

By the time we all got to play a bit of tennis, it was already 9pm and time to let our hosts rest up. What a day it has been indeed! Full day of activity and fun, I really enjoyed myself and so blessed to have such a pleasant experience and memorable event!

Parantha Newbie!

image

Had lunch break with these young fellas. With Khaleed and Sajid, my “office mates” at an Indian restaurant located inside a mini food court. Today was Khaleed’s first day at work since he got hired right after he finished his last paper. Sajid suggested we go to this tiny food court along Anzac Avenue, it was a bit of a walk, but it was a good experience I must say.

image

I didn’t even know what we were eating for lunch. Sajid just went straight ahead and ordered food even without asking me what I want. Guess its a given when you’re a girl but you eat like a man. 😑

So I got to try Parantha roti for the very first time. According to Saj, its the brother of roti and this one is stuffed with cauliflower and some other spices. We had to eat it with our hands and even without washing my hands first. I know, totes gross. But I had to deal with it cos am with the boyz. 😓

The Parantha is served with a pickled spicy red thing which I think was also a mix of chili and it was kinda sour. Then we had to dip the Parantha with yoghurt! The yoghurt is like the dipping sauce. Interesting, never tried that before!

Although it was kinda oily, it was very filling. For a 5 dollar meal that was good enough to fill the stomach for the rest of the afternoon. What I didn’t like about it was the stench it left on my fingers! urghh.. Indian spices are really pungent that they really stick to your skin! Even fingers! 😕

Victoria Park.

image

This is the view from the park where my friend /co-intern Sajid and I had a good rest sitting down on the ground from a hard core Rugby tag and a basketball game!

I don’t remember the last time I had worked out this hard. This is definitely my first time playing any kind of Rugby and it was nice to finally got the idea of the game and actually experience playing it. After work, as we were walking home, Sajid invited me to play with him and some people from the college, mainly the marketing and student services people like Torika and Pukar. We were at the park from 7pm to 9pm which was a good 2 hours worth of running and tagging people and shooting hoops!

This Park was about 10 minutes walk from my apartment and it was downhill slightly off the city center. Although my team lost the Rugby game, we totally brought our game up in Basketball and redeemed ourselves (Pukar and I at least, the other dude who was our team mate in Rugby doesn’t play basketball).

It was a nice change of activity and being outdoor for once. I can be quite the internet junkie and stay home all day if it weren’t for people who invite me to do stuff like this. I mean, deep down I feel hesitant, like the preference would always be to stay home, but my mind tells me “You need to go outside guuurrll!!!”🙄

Perks on being the intern. #freebies

We got free hot chocolate with Marshmallows and a fruity tart! Woohoo!!

The hospitality students from the little café in our college building went up all the way to our top floor office pushing a cart and serving everyone in the office with free hot choco and a tart. How nice!!!

image

And this morning God gave me another surprise. My boss/tutor called me into her office and said she wanted to talk to me. I thought I made a mistake on some accounts or she was going to tell me off about something. On the contrary, she told me starting next year, I won’t need to do free labor as an intern anymore. I can get paid for a casual job in the current office! Wow! Thank You Lord!!!

Truly God is amazing and so faithful. I didn’t expect to be offered anything in return for interning in the office, especially since I had very limited accounting experience and higly possible slow processing of task and risk of mistakes. But I am so grateful for the opportunity. Pressured and slightly intimidated by the responsibility but still, couldn’t have had this blessing without God’s favor and intervention.

Thank You Father for taking care of me :):):)🙌🙌🙌🙏🙏🙏

Secret Santa in the Office! #internLife #Christmas2015

Our little office organized a small gift exchange program with some snacks! Crackers with Cheese, dried fruits, strawberries and cherries with chocolate dip! Wow~~ this is probably one of the most fanciest afternoon tea I have participated in.

image

Everyone first gathered around the pantry while Aimee gave a little speech about how they wanted to organize this little thanksgiving gig and thanked everyone there and wished everyone happy holidays and Merry Christmas.

image

Once all the formalities were done, the young men all digged in. Huaaahhh!!

image

After the quick tea time snack, we all gathered around the tree as Nick and Aimee handed out the anonymous gifts to everyone. Sajid’s gift was the first to be called out and he opened it immediately and got to try out his cap!

image

Here’s a rare group photo we managed to catch with everyone gathered in front of the Christmas tree. Let’s see if I can remember everyone’s name, L-R: Ting, Irina, Aimee, Nick, Pavel, Peter, Sheela, Rogan, Sajid, Aaron, Merwyn, Isaac, Anne and Nithya.

image

This was the nicest group photo with everyone looking at the camera but too bad my flash was not switched on so the original photo was slightly dark especially with Sajid down below, so I fixed it up with Snapseed.

image

image

Aimee was really kind to offer to take a photo of the group with me in it, and yea some people were not ready yet and Rogan was way out the door already. I look awful here too so oh well!

image

With co worker, Pavel, my very lovely and smiley face tutor/boss Aimee, and the very relaxed and friendly Sajid. The Achieve Accountants team!

Although most people only got 1 gift, I got two gifts!! I don’t know who the notebook was from but it was a very useful gift really, I just ran out of notebook this morning! And the other gift was pretty obviously from Aimee and I know she was very anxious to see me open it but she was busy doing some other things and Sajid kept pushing me to open the gifts already. So she didn’t get to see the excitement in my eyes when I saw the nice body lotion and shower cream that smelled so good! Of course, the first thing I thought was, why do I always get stuck with purple colored stuff? But still, it was a really nice gift and so sweet of Aimee too. I am just wondering how do I thank her? Or should I make her know it was her? Hmm.. here I go again with the social interaction phenomena..

Sajid tried to guess who was his secret Santa and I told him if the gift was a good gift, then I’d claim that I was the secret Santa. He didn’t say it was awesome, which I think considering he is probably not much of a “Cap” person, but he said it was very useful for summer and that was exactly what I was thinking when I got him the cap. So at least it served its purpose! Thank You Lord for the gift idea!

Yippee!! A photo of me standing next to the Christmas tree.. Holiday feels y’all!
