The end is here. #finalexam #diplomacompleted

Two years just went by too fast.

Today marks the end of another chapter in my 34+ years of life on this earth.

It hasn’t been a breeze, although it must have been easier than being in High school though. But of course, life as a teen and life as a middle age adult and still studying is two different things really.

It was such a burden off my shoulders when I finally finished my final paper for the final term. Audit was a lot of theory and not quite like all the calculations we’ve had in other subjects previously. I’m sure I would pass, its just a matter of getting a good result.

My little ‘squad’ comprising of a Korean girl and a Ukranian guy waited for me to finish my exam so we could go have lunch together for probably the last time. Of course, Saj just had to tag along 😏

Instead of the usual Food Alley, HeyG brought us to a place called “Tab” and obviously it was a bar which also served food so at least a place where we can have drinks to loosen up too.

I went for the Traditional Fish and Chips and boy was I disappointed at how little the fish portion was πŸ˜’

But as you can see from my expression here, I was more relieved about the Diploma coming to end than I am about the food that I didn’t care how my double chins were popping out like nobody was there πŸ™„

Had a good chill session with these guys, although Saj had to leave by 2pm to head back go work, Sergii, HeyG and I just sat around, have our drinks and just savored the last moment we get to sit around and talk about life just like that.. 😊

Yep, I’ll miss seeing these two seatmates sticking around me in class 😝

Final Class in NTEC DBA level 7 Diploma in Business Accounting

It is finally here. And it didn’t really dawn on me until Arun mentioned the obvious. He said he was also not feeling well today, as we were talking about why Linda (his seatmate) was absent the past two days. And he said that he was not about to miss the last class of his final semester in NTEC.

It’s too bad that we didn’t have Ken, our favorite tutor with us this week. He was away on a business trip back to Malaysia and so we had Asif as our replacement tutor and we just had to do our own self study so it was a pretty boring class. But hey, all is well nevertheless.

How could we leave the class without one last groufie??

This was taken from Asif’s iPhone 7 so the resolution was very good and took a very good shot of everyone. Well, not the complete group but at least the ones that have stayed behind.

L-R : Venika, Dinesh, Jaspreet, Ashok, Nisan, Arun, Ruwan and Hyeji. Danuka and Sergii right at the back.

This bunch has annoyed me all semester to be honest 😏 especially the group from Sri Lanka cos they talk too much. But I think they weren’t as bad as the group from Punjab in the last class we had a few semesters ago doing the Performance Management paper.

After our exam next Wednesday, I may never see some of them ever again. Well, it was good to have crossed paths with them anyway πŸ˜‰

Ladies Night.

The last time I had a catch up session with Rain was two month’s ago when I went to her house. This time, we met up in the city in a newly revamped restaurant called 1947 Eatery (formerly called “Handi”) and she also invited her friend Ritu and this sassy lady Analyn whom I have not seen since she graduated from our college.

It was a simple night of drinks and Indian food, girly chit chats of work, life, Ms India NZ, immigration issues and love life! I spent more time talking to Analyn this time, I guess being that we didn’t manage to catch up when I went to visit Rain the last time (they were flatmates). So now that she’s moved out of their place just recently, I guess she also took the opportunity to catch up with Rain.

Rithima was sweet, she’s also a sassy one and it was nice to finally meet her after seeing lots of photos they had of going out etc. I didn’t stay long though, met up with them around 6:40pm and then I left by 9:15pm. It was a Sunday night after all, a bit mellow mood since people are preparing to go to work the next day.

I told Rain that we should catch up next after 5 weeks when I finally finished my course and have a bit of a breather. And she should also organize that looooong overdue house warming party that I told her about!

Chill Saturday Night

Because I had bumped into Rain’s brother las weekend, I figured I should go visit her at her new home after our last bonding session about a month or two ago.

Took the train up to Avondale station then hooked myself up with an Uber driver to get to Rain’s house down at Hendon Ave by about 7pm.

It was an easy going night where we just chilled, ate food and have some drinks. Just catching up with each others lives and general stuff. Rain’s sister was so hospitable and sliced all the fruits and fed us even when she was not feeling so great.

I brought them a bottle of the Feijoa Liquer that I got a while back from Matakana. But unfortunately they didn’t have a cork screw so we couldn’t get the liquer opened!

These sisters are just adorable. They were trying to get the cork out with a nail and hammer. It didn’t work obviously.

Rain and I even took her brother, Ad’s car out to Pak n Save to try and buy a corkscrew but they didn’t sell any! It was just ridiculous πŸ˜“

We gave up and went back to her house with just a bottle of Coke. Drank a bit of whiskey with coke and chatted up a bit more before I called it a night and headed home by 11pm.

It was just a short time spent with Rain and her sister but it was a nice catch up that I miss doing with them. Rain is definitely one of those friends that is dear to my heart and will always try to make time to catch up and bond with her whenever I can.

Bowling on a rare occasion.

With Hyeji, Saj, Sergii and Khalid on a mini reunion for MYOB/Xero classmates.

I wanted to do this on Friday right after the mid terms exam, but since Hyeji had made other plans, she requested for us to do it on Saturday.

So here we are, at 7pm on a Saturday, having a chill and relaxing bowling session even with a small group like this.

Sergii came later after he finished work. So he managed to play like 2 turns of Hyeji’s bowling game. Since he joined the party a little late, we decided to play a bit of pool after the bowling game.

Lucky for us, the pool game was a treat from my friend that works in the bowling alley. So just two games and we were done for the night.

Surprisingly, the bowling alley was not as packed as I expected it to be. But thats a good thing for us I guess. It was all in all a chill night and just about right for hanging out and something light and easy.

End of midterms celebration. #classmates

Midterms are over!!! And yea I know, its not like the FINALS are over but hey, we can celebrate in the little things right?

Because I promised my Korean classmate Hyeji, that I would go out and have a drink with her after exams, we ended up here at Bannsang Korean Cafe down at High Street. Arun and Nissan also tagged along for lunch and some drinks just to hang out and chill after a stressful week of studying and exams.

I ordered what I know best, which was the Bibimbop cos I know they serve eggs with it. I never say no to eggs. But then Hyeji let us try her dish which was called the Yuk gae jaang. It was a beef broth that also had eggs in it, it was so yummy. I have to go back there next time and order that instead.

Of course, the main reason why Hyeji wanted us to come to this place was so that we could taste Korean Soju. I think it was some type of Soju but it was a flavored Soju, Blueberry that is. It was kind of like Vodka for me. But hey, at 13.5% alcohol, yupp thats something alright. Hyeji really wanted to see me drunk but it wasn’t the time of the day to do so though.

I liked our little bunch of different nationalities: Korean, Malaysian, Indian and Sri Lankan. It’s how I would imagine a world should be. Not just all the Chinese hanging around themselves, or a bunch of Indians with themselves. I always find myself hanging around people who are from a different culture than I am. We talked about everything, from food, to classmates who are annoying, to movies, and pets, and even talked about how Hyeji should get a boyfriend and I should get married. *rolls eyes*

Anyway, we had two bottles of about 345ml of that Soju shared among four of us which was not a lot of alcohol yet. So Hyeji suggested we continue the little party down at a bar called Occidental. It was my first time here, but she has definitely been here a couple of times, especially for the mussels. She also suggested we try the Cherry Beer. I told her to just get me whatever is sweet.

Of course, how could we drink without having some snacks to go with all that booze? So we had a side dish of wedges with sour cream and continued our chit chat for about an hour or so after which we all agreed it was time to head home around 3:15pm.

This was really our first time eating out together and it was good that we get to do it once in a while because we see each other week after week in classes but we never really get to hang out outside of “serious” class mode.

Thanks for the lovely session guys, you guys rock!

Catching up with Noelin and the little ones.

Finally managed to catch up with this sweet lady again after so long. The last time we got together was during Christmas eve last year! And how months flew by! Although it was a rainy day, it was nice that she still made the effort to come out to hang out and see me even if it was for a short while, and even if she had to drag her niece and nephew with her. I appreciated it very much.

image

Noelin initially wanted to take me nearby at Ponsonby area, but there were no parking to be found, and finally she decided to just head on to Mission Bay which was the idea in the beginning anyway. Went to this Cafe called De Fontein which is a Belgian Beer Cafe, but not to worry, it was child friendly, although they do serve alcohol and hard liquor, I was even tempted to drink wine at broad day light but seemed like Noelin was not up for it, and especially since she had to drive anyway. So woopsie.. next time for me then :-p

image

Noelin suggested I go for the fish and chips since it was a really big serving, and I didn’t really felt like rummaging through the menu and figuring out what I wanted to eat since I was already really hungry at 1:15pm so I agreed to go with the same dish.

The place was packed when we got there, had to wait and sit at a temporary table which had the kids sitting on a really high tall chair, and it was not comfortable at all. Good thing we were able to move to another table before the food arrived.

We just talked about random things like work, whether or not we wanted kids (duh, common topic among 30+ singles), and movies what not. With kids around, our conversations were pretty limited to R-12 if you know what I mean.

Noelin insisted to pay for the meal, so I told her I have to pay for dessert. So we moved to KiwiYo which was just a few blocks down the road, and took the kids there for some “healthy” dessert. I mean, I was ready for lots of unhealthy thing, but I guess Noelin was very considerate and caring of Maya and Lucas and wanted to make sure they didn’t get too much sugar in them. Good on her!

image

It was a nice and simpleΒ catching up moment, we were done right after the dessert and she dropped me home since the kids also needed to get home soon. I was glad we were able to do this. Especially since Noelin was the one who initiated the meet up, so sweet of her to still think of me πŸ™‚

Rummy-O Night! #boardgames #Saturday

image

Hang out session at Saj and the gang’s. Saj’s flatmates are so welcoming and generous, feeding me with all the glorious Indian food and spices and opening my eyes to lots of insights into their rich culture. Spent the whole day at their crib just chillin’, watching movies, eating and playing Rummy-O. Such fun loving and cool people they are, here with Saj, Harry, Prachi and Nik.

It was a rainy Saturday, all day. So nothing much we could do outdoors, I am so glad we got to do something fun even indoors, on my second day into 2016. Thank You Lord for awesome friends and company πŸ™‚

A Day at the Park. #Cornwall #Auckland

Aimee invited Saj and I to go to Cornwall Park today to take a walk, chill and just hang out. We met up with her at the office just at about lunch time, and helped her deconstruct the Christmas tree and packed a few things from the office to her BMW.

But before heading to the park, it’s a late lunch makan time! Aimee took us to a Malaysian restaurant called the KK Malaysian Cuisine down at Epsom, just a few minutes drive nearby to the park. Nothing in the restaurant serves anything Kota Kinabalu style so I am not sure why they are called KK, maybe the name of the owner or something.

image

We ordered a two serving Coconut rice, Kang Kung stir fried with Sambal, and their Beef Rendang.

image

The rendang dish was about $20 I think, and it wasn’t spicy at all but it was definitely very tasty! I am usually not a big fan of rendangs, but this one was nice and juicy and not dry like the ones I normally taste during Hari Raya open houses!

image

When we got to the park, Aimee showed us the Stardome Observatory which has an entrance fee but she just wanted to show us a small part of the place but the observatory was already closed. So we just ended up taking a photo in front of the entrance just to say we were here. Hehehehe

image

After parking her BMW, Aimee, Saj and I took a stroll down the park looking for a nice spot to sit down and chill. Look at all the lovely trees along the walkway! Aimee and Saj walking in front of me while I was busy taking photos and some selfies.

image

This shot was the best selfie for the day!

image

I also brought my recently purchased Wilson volleyball to the park so we could play!

image

Today, I also got to drive in Auckland for the very first time! Well, it wasn’t much of a drive really since I just helped Aimee drive her car nearer to the spot we were positioned at and the drive was just pretty much down the road inside the park area only. But hey, it still counts as driving!

image

With Aimee and Saj at our spot under the tree. Good thing Aimee still had her beach rug in the car so we could use it to sit on the ground and play Rummy-O! Now, these two are quite the competitive board game players. It was such an intense session that I really wish they would just lighten up and play for fun! Have some conversation while we’re at it for goodness sake! Oh well, at least I won one of the rounds and was placed second for the others hehehehe.. and yes, Saj is the better player at this game πŸ™„

And once again, God answered our prayer for a good weather! No rain today! It was such a wonderful time of fellowship! Thank You so much Lord!

Sunday afternoon lunch out. #ENAC #spiritualFamily #kfcNZ

This week Sunday service is held in the South Side EN Church at Papatoetoe. That’s about 30 minutes drive away from the city. I took a ride with Tyrone, Charissa and the fam bam to the church. We arrived there early, about 30 minutes before the service started. The service is held in a Seventh Day Adventist church which is beautiful by the way. Lovely interior and the seats were really comfortable and not to mention the sound system was so good and when the congregation worship and sang accapella, it sounded so heavenly!

We had a combined service this week to celebrate the graduation of the Every Nation Leadership Institute. Probably about less than 20 students but it was a nice intimate ceremony and the speaker was the school director and he just preached and shared a message about servant Leadership.

After the service, as usual, the connect group tends to gather together for lunch out and this time they wanted to go for a KFC lunch out at Botany. It was my first time to try the NZ’s version of the good ol’ KFC.

Groufie!! The large group in two separate tables. Photo grabbed from Kuya Alfred’s FB post.

12339433_10208443479071128_7893395681081937737_o

I ordered a two piece chicken with chips, and that was 6 dollars without any soft drinks. Then additional 3 dollars for coleslaw. Still kinda pricey if you ask me. But oh well, since everyone was game for KFC, we just had to go with the flow.
