Australian & New Zealand Education Expo. #Fortrust

image

So I spent my Saturday at the Education Expo for ANZ. It was my first ever education expo attended and I wasn’t expecting this many people to participate as well! I thought I was early when I got to the Intercontinental Hotel at 12pm sharp as I was expecting Filipino time for the event to start. It was great that they started on time as I only had 2 hours at the venue before heading off to music may ministry rehearsal at Infinitif studios which would start at 2pm.

I managed to find the booth for the NTEC institute that I already knew about. But the guy I met the last time was not there. I went ahead to ask the counselor anyway but I personally didn’t feel like she was of much help. Then I went on to look around at other New Zealand schools and came across Otago Polytechnic. The student advisor manning the booth was very warm and approachable. I even managed to get a VIP pass from him and got to skip the long lines for the application and counselling process.

However, unlike NTEC, they do not have a specific accounting course but they have what is called a Graduate Diploma in Applied Management. I am hesitant because that only means I would graduate with another non-skilled diploma but that only takes a year to complete and it is already a level 7 course. Besides that, part of the course is already an internship which the school itself will find a place for me to work at.

So I’m currently torn between these two schools although, the Otago polytechnic is more attractive to me mostly for the duration of the course and the fact that it includes the internship which already gives me a job experience off the bat. But I am also looking towards the future and if I want to be considered as a professional, then I really need to consider the accounting pathway.

Decisions, decisions. Lord, please help!

Whiplash. (2014)

image

I saw this movie being shown here in the cinemas around Metro Manila but because of the movie title, it didn’t intrigue me enough to want to check imdb on what the movie was about.

It was only after I read the synopsis of the movie and also found out that they main character here was actually portrayed by Miles Teller that I got curious about the movie. Not to mention it was a movie about music and musicians and even got nominated for Best Picture in the Oscars.

image

I was blown away. I loved hearing all the jazz music that they were playing in the movie and how intense it was especially those moments when Miles’ character Andrew, was practicing so hard and pushing himself so much. It was completely insane how he got hit by a truck, survived it and still went to the competition just so he could be a part of the band and show his worth! And I was so pist off vehement at the part where the Instructor took revenge and tricked Andrew into performing on stage unprepared just to humiliate him! Uurrrgghhh made me hate that character so badly! He’s such a meanie!!!

Story aside, I really thought about my ex when I saw this movie. Really wanted to share it with him since he was a drummer himself and I remember how back in the day, we both shared the passion for movies and we’d talk about a movie after watching it. Guess I can’t do that with him anymore since he’s got a girl now. Oh well, I would’ve recommended the movie to him if he hasn’t watch it yet.

Did I liked the movie? Absolutely! Did I like the ending? Well… I guess it was good enough. I mean, when it ended, I wanted more. Who wouldn’t after all that the character has been through?!

Jolibee Friday. #tGif #lastFridayofthemonth

Happy Friday! We had a very late breakfast today because our order from Jolibee only arrived almost 9am. By that time everyone was quite famished and in a hurry to eat. So here’s a groufie before we dig in!!

Comet (2014).

image

Bitter sweet. The best way to describe this movie. The ending was abrupt and not happy which makes me upset and yet I am still satisfied at how the story was told.

Watched this movie at SM Aura  with Galerose after she insisted to get me the ticket even after a huge argument of how I did NOT want to watch this movie with her and the drama that came along with this movie treat. Plus the movie was only showing at 8:10pm and I still have work the next day. Good thing the movie was only 1 hour and 35 minutes long.

I totally agree that there is a great chemistry between Justin Long and Emmy Rossum here. I just wished there were more scenes of them being loving and more of the “kilig” moments but nope, those elements were a very small fraction in the movie so I was kind of disappointed at some level.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Breakfast of Champions. #porkflosspower

image

Had an early breakfast today since I had a long sleep yesterday. As soon as I got home from work, I slept and didn’t even bothered to do anything else. I recall waking up sometime around midnight when Aileen came home and made some noise fiddling through her stuff in the dark in the room. I just rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. Though I did thought of waking up then but if I did, I probably won’t be able to last long enough throughout the rest of my Tuesday to go to Victory Group at night.

There I go again veering off topic. 😜

So breakfast today is made up of Pan de Manila small Pandesals with slices of Cheese and baked Turkey Spam. Then topped it off with some Pork Floss! Winner!!! Simply delicious 😆

Dragon Blade (2015). #becauseitsCNY #羊年

image

So I wanted to watch this movie since the first day of Chinese New Year on Thursday, and I finally got the “convenience” of watching this movie here at Glorietta 4 Cinemas after church service at Makati. Earlier I was considering if I should even watch the movie because I was unsure if the movie was good, and also I was feeling rather lazy. But the thought of going home to a tight space of a room and have awkward silences with my roommate gave me even more determination to stay away from home as much as I possibly could. We had a bit of an argument about a petty matter on iTunes settings and I got annoyed and just snapped at her to leave me alone. So there. Though I did apologize to her over Viber, I guess she doesn’t seem to find the apology sincere enough. Oh well. Can’t wait till she leaves. Urgh. Ok, got a bit sidetracked there. So let’s go back to the matter at hand.

The ticket cost me 220 pesos, and as usual, chose the seat right smack at the center or middle of the theater. The photo below of the poster I took from quite a distance as it hung over the railings of a balcony above the escalators. You could see some people underneath the poster where they are actually at the Food Choices a level below the cinema.

Now, about the movie. How should I put this? Once again, I was disappointed at the fact that they dubbed the Mandarin scripts to English. It sounded ridiculous. Especially when the rest of the cast beside Jackie Chan had a better American accent than he did and yet they came from the same tribe! Tsk! And talk about being realistic? I am almost 100 % sure that people back in ancient days did not speak English as a universal language without an interpreter or translator! UUurrrggghhh…

On the other hand, I did get a sweet surprise that my crush Vanness Wu was actually part of the movie! Although a small part, but still, I am proud that he gets international recognition now! Thing is, I think it was pretty obvious he was trying to get the audience to notice him especially with that horrible hairstyle he had in the movie. But its ok, I’ll forgive him. Heheheheheh…

About the storyline, well basically it was a war movie. And I hate war movies. But I’ll give Jackie Chan a chance. And this was mainly a Chinese production. As in, I think the producers just imported John Cusack and Adrian Brody for the mere popularity sake. I mean, I don’t think John Cusack’s character suits his face and personality. I think someone like Hugh Jackman would’ve played the part better but its not like I have a choice right? There were parts that were very corny I must say. There would be scenes with dramatic battle music coming up and then an abrupt change of scene where the character gets into an emotional drama mode. I mean, it just sort of made me feel that the momentum was cut short.

At the start of the movie, especially the part when Jackie Chan scenes came in, I guess I was kinda distracted that the voices did not match their lips so I couldn’t understand much of the politics going on in the story. It was only when the story progressed that I was able to catch that it was about working together, and unity and peace among the 36 nations. Now I really gotta get back to my Chinese History lessons! But if you are a Jackie Chan fan, you will definitely see the trademark in his martial arts choreography. Action scenes were good and as expected of Jackie Chan. Less comedy though, I find Jackie Chan is moving towards more serious tones as of his recent movies.

It’s funny how the title of the movie is Dragon Blade, but the whole storyline doesn’t even revolve around a sword. Although there is a sword that they sort of highlighted during the movie but that was it.

Anyway, the computer effects and music was surprising impressive. There were parts of the movie where I thought, wow, this was all done by the Asian producers? Not bad, not bad at all. Kudos!
