Of Barbies, Weddings and Birthdays.

Aaahhh.. Wedding Day Barbie.. I simply took this cos I thought it would be nice to relate this to the wedding function that I went to!

I am ‘actually’ a fan of Barbie dolls. As much as I hate to admit how girly I could be sometimes.

However, I do have a certain level of ’sophistication’ when it came to Barbie matter at my age now, that is, if I ever do want to buy Barbie for myself now, it would be more on the COLLECTOR’S EDITIONS..

So here’s two that I saw at Parkson Grand that I thought if I could afford it, I would’ve gotten these..

Chinese New Year’s Edition of a Chinese Barbie.. very nice packaging with Chinese Character writing of the “Barbie” name..

11s

“Dolls of the World – Sumatra Indonesia” Edition.

Similarities? I like the fact that they put Barbie “concept” into different ethnicity and cultures.. makes it so interesting! Heck, they even make Kimora Barbie nowadays

Why am I so facinated by Barbie dolls? Maybe just the fact that I never enjoyed having LOADS of Barbies to play with when I was younger. Had one or two of it but not with the set bedrooms or cars and all that luxury

But the thing I like most about Barbie, is those tiny SHOES!!! They’re so tiny and adorable! I just love playing with the shoe accessories and getting my doll change her shoes all the time!!

So about the wedding, its actually a Malay wedding that I went to. My colleague is the bride and a few of us from the office and ex staffs got together to go for the function. It was held at her home in the kampung which was about 20 to 30mins away from the city.

It was a rather grand wedding for one that is held in the kampung i must say, they had a nice wedding arch done, the centre stage was lavishly decorated, they even had karaoke set up!!

And here comes the Bride!!! I like this photo of her, so elegant!! I usually see her in normal office clothings and she looked so glamorous today!!! She was actually still getting ready in the room when I insisted to take a few snaps!!

These girls were ’sort-of’ the “flower girls” I presumed! Wearing traditional Bajau costumes if ‘m not mistaken?

And did I mention that I never realised that in Malay Wedding ‘Kenduri’ they actually separate the ladies and the gentlemen’s buffet table?? Totally my first encounter!

Here is the procession whereby the groom comes to the bride’s house and being Raja Sehari (King for a day), if you could look closely in the photo, he’s actually being carried by two men!! Traditions! (the groom is the guy wearing green.. not the one holding the Kompang)

Here’s a video of the bride joining the groom to their “bersanding” procession..

Photos of the “pelamin” or stage where the bride and groom were stationed. Only then till I realised there was actually TWO couples wedding celebration going on at the same time!!! It was my colleague and the other was her very own younger brother!!! And the couples were wearing identical costumes!!! Gosh.. I personally wouldnt want to share my wedding with someone else cos I want all the attention to myself!!!!

And the final photo session before we left the function after being there from 12.45pm till 2.30pm (about an hour and a half)

This photo was a difficult one!! Everyone was crowded around the front area and I had to squeeze 3 of us quickly so we could grab a quick shot and left promptly!! I just HAD to have a photo with the couple!!!

After the wedding function, I quickly joined the sister’s family to spend time with Danica who turns 7 – SEVEN today!!!! How quickly my little niece had grown..

A fair Saturday

March 30, 2008

Today, out of spontaneity,  I tagged along with my colleague to an NGO annual general meeting, which was inclusive of a brief motivational talk, and lunch thereafter.

Hence, FREE LUNCH~~

At Le Meridien Hotel summore!!  Expensive hotel food!!! For FREE!!!

mhahahahahahahaha

ok ok.. yes, I had a lil too much to eat. I had Smoked Salmon, Smoked Mackerel, really yummy tomato cream soup.. etc etc.. oooooooo~~~~~

its unfortunate that I had no camera to take photos of that delightful moment that I devoured all that glorious serving..

Aaaaaaaanyway, back to the NGO thing, my colleague and I only went there around 12.30pm after work, so when we got there the whole meeting was done and over with,  just the motivational talk session.

By the way, this NGO is a local Sabah NGO which is still pretty new, established 2003, in its 4th year now,  its called DESANITA (The Progressive Indigenous Woman).

So as the name says it, its mission involves helping the village women, or indigenous women to develop themselves, do charity work for them, healthcare programs, educate them of their rights as women and so on so forth.. And yes, members are all LADIES~~

Lets just say, I was THE YOUNGEST lady there at the function!

For all you KK-ians or Sabahans, if you’re interested to know more about the organisation, unfortunately they have no website yet, but they do have a contact email : desanita.ppwd@gmail.com

Moving on, the FREE lunch ended around 3pm, which I hurriedly head home and rushed out to my next program for the day, Bballin’ at my former highschool !!!

A chance for a brief reunion and reminiscing of old times.. hahaha.. well, actually, my other friends were late and they got me waiting there for an hour!!!

Still, managed to play at least 1 game of half court. And man, was I rusty. I think I haven’t played for about a year now! I was worried I’d embarrass myself as we were playing co-ed teams!!!

A breath of relief tho, as rusty as I was, I managed to score 4 points for my team.. woo hoo!!! kekekekekeke

Got home around 6pm, and I was in the mood to do some laundry and cleaned up my room for a bit! How rare of an occasion!!!

So yea, hence the title, “A fair Saturday”.
